Oh man I just realized I haven't been here to post an update since August. A ton has been happening since then. One of the most important things that has happened is that I have become a partner at Echo Echo Gallery in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle! Studio and life update for August, woo...

Its been a pretty busy summer so far. Lets see I did a couple shows that I didn't post about here, doh. Best to fan or bookmark my public facebook page for the best updates on shows and stuff:

I took some new paintings into Twilight in West Seattle a bit ago, probably going to go rotate out a few of those soon. I did my first ever show at Urban Light Studios in Greenwood and that was totally cool. I will be doing another show there in September, the theme is Mad Magazine...not sure what I will paint yet but Ill come up with something weird I'm sure. I also did the Mercer Island festival with fellow artist Jonathan Arras of Spirals In Love, his work is way cool and hes a totally cool guy:

Lets see what else, I went to Emerald City Comic Con, haven't been in a few years and that was fun. Its gotten bigger since I had a table in artist alley a few years back. I'm all signed up to do ECCC in 2012 so I'm pretty excited about that. I'm seriously considering Sakuracon as well but I haven't signed up for that yet. I also want to do Wondercon in San Fransisco but they don't have dates set yet so I don't know if Ill be able to do that if the dates end up overlapping one of the other cons Ill be doing, well see...I did finally send in my application for Comicon Intl. but there is a nice wait list for that so who knows when Ill be doing that, I may just send in some art for the art show until I get in.

Also have just been doing a lot of family / friend stuff. Laying in my yard in the sun. Went kayaking for the first time ever and it wasn't as terrifying as I thought it would be, I didn't flip over yay! Trying to get more work done in a day than is possible...the usual.

I do have an announcement to make that is pretty cool. A little bit ago I signed with a nice little company to licence my artwork for some different products. The company is Queen Kat Stamp Co. and Kat's Magical Patches:

The link will take you to a page of all of my products. So far what I have is Rubber stamps, 8 different stamps/sets. Fabric patches, 8 different images and they come in many different sizes from about 2.5x3.5 on up to 8x10 inches which you can choose. I will be having a few new products coming soon as well, I just signed contracts for those the other day so Ill be sure to announce those when they are up for sale, one will be Iron on Transfers and the other I cant talk about just yet :D

I have a ton of work and painting and stuff to do today, oh getting a shop set up for the site here to slowly working on that at the moment so not to much to say about that yet but hopefully Ill be able to unveil that finished very soon. Show description:

This show's focus will be based on the magical land where Unicorns roam free on the grassy plains with the Jackalope's. Fairies and Gnomes tend to the wild flowers and mushrooms of the forest where witches live in bone and candy houses. Trolls hide under bridges to torment travelers, troublesome spirits haunt rivers and lakes to lure passersby to a watery grave. Narwhals fight epic battles with ancient creatures in the deeps of the oceans and the castles in the sky float by without taking notice.

 

Prospectus:

Your work does not need to be narrative but should reflect a fantasy theme. Think fairy tales, nursery rhymes, fairies, unicorns and all other make believe creatures. Your work can be on the sweet side or a darker interpretation, maybe even comical? Have fun with it! Please nothing overtly sexual or violent, tasteful artistic nudity is acceptable. All mediums will be accepted, traditional wall art, sculpture, fiber art, plush etc...artists will be limited to 3 pieces but please note that we may only accept one of the three. The sale commission is 30%. This is a juried show.

 

Submissions must be sent via email.

We will start accepting submissions Tuesday Feb 1^st, the last day to submit will be Monday Feb 28^th 2011.

If accepted your work will need to be display/hang ready when dropped off at Happy Delusions. The cutoff date for accepted works to be in for display is Sunday March 27^th and work can be dropped off during business hours. Please call Mary at Happy Delusions if you will need to make any special arrangements regarding your piece/pieces. Opening reception is Friday April 1^st 5:00-9:00 pm, wine and light snacks will be provided.

Artist Statement: Pretty little injured girls, candy coated mushrooms, cupcakes, sweet dreams and nightmares. The world is a scary place full of wolves and pitfalls. If you can pluck up enough courage to wander in the forest there are treasures and beautiful things to be found there. You will gain strength from suffering and learn perhaps one of the greatest lessons, sometimes cake is worth the cavity.

With special guest DJ Corporate spinning tunes!

I have one or two pieces in the 12 days of x-mas show, I painted two but they may only be using one in the show, Im not sure. Then for the show at the Stables I will have 12 pieces, some new original artwork, some framed open edition prints and some framed Limited edition hand embellished canvas prints so a range of prices from like $20-$650. Stop by listen to music and look at art! =)

New art and Some shows!

I have been meaning to post this for a bit now. I have a few shows going and coming up.

First up This month my art has been hanging on Vashon Island at the Red Bicycle and it will be moving to Good Merchandise for the month of August. Both locations are curated by the lovely AnnaLisa LaFayette who owns Good Merchandise. I also have some prints and stuff in her shop for the duration of the art shows. I am also having another fun art show in August here in Renton at Common Ground Coffee and Cupcakes, it is of course a cupcake themed show! I am painting two new paintings for it, possibly a third if I have time and I will  also have a bunch of sweet framed prints to hang there. Then in September I am having an art show at Happy Delusions and I am painting some new BIG paintings for that, more on that show when the time gets closer. I need to update the shows/appearances section of the site here still. I also have a bunch of new art I need to add to the gallery section, I am a little behind at the moment :P

I am also going to be doing the Kitch N Stitch show on August 22nd in the SODO area of Seattle at Club Motor 12-5 pm.

New art and a Mini Munny

So I haven't posted my "new" Paintings here yet. Got to get better about posting the new art here when it is actually brand new. So I have a few Alice in Wonderland paintings that I recently finished, they were in an art show a month or so ago at Rung Studio in Georgetown Wa (Seattle). So Ill have more new art to post really soon! Now though its time to go clean the house. I had a house guest over the weekend and a show- I heart Indie in Kirkland on Sunday so I need to get caught up on my chores so I can paint without distractions...

Bad Words
Thursday, February 11th
from 6 to 9, during the West Seattle Art Walk.

What makes a word bad? After all, they're just words. It is the human imagination that generates a context in which certain words are frowned upon in common usage. These words vary from region to region, but every language seems to have some. There is really nothing wrong with a word. It can't harm anyone literally, but again, the human mind can take words very seriously at times and can create its own damage from them. Despite all that, they can come in handy and express things good words just can't.

This show is intended to be an examination of words that could be construed as "bad". I asked several artists to play with this concept of what makes BAD WORDS.
